When you are searching for a career, don’t assume the interview is the first impression you will make on the person that may or may not hire you. As many of us have heard, potential employers “meet you” online before deciding whether or not to meet you in person. It’s true.
Make sure your social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) represent you in a professional manner. If necessary, create two separate pages, one for your business and one for fun. Just as social media is great for “socializing”, it is also very useful as a professional tool.
* Link with LinkedIn. LinkedIn is the largest online professional network. It is great for making and maintaining business relationships.
* Create an online portfolio and utilize services such as YouTube to promote your craft. Although the internet is vast, there are many ways to set yourself apart and stand out from the “competition”. Keep up with media trends, and make sure you know how to utilize the various services, as that makes you more marketable.
* Create a personal website or blog. There are many inexpensive services, such as Wix.com that make it easy to promote yourself professionally with minimal technical know-how.
* “You never know who’s watching — you always have to be on”, was one of the first things said by Tatia Adams-Fox (Boopa Marketing) in reference to one’s digital presence.
* When in doubt, ask for help.
