On Thursday, February 20, 2014 Savannah State University held their 63rd annual Southern Regional Press Institute. This event takes place over the course of a two-day period that includes various workshops presented by The Savannah State University Faculty as well as professionals within the Mass Communications field.

In the John F. Kennedy building, room 212, at 10:30 am Dr. Trammel directed the Digital Storytelling: Covering your campus, along with Online Content Manger Mr. Kareem McMichael.

In this work shop which was for high school students, they explained how to go about making your own online school newspaper through a popular website called SNO Sites, and the importance on how networking your information brings you a bigger audience and advertisement.

Beach High School does not have a school newspaper due to the constraint of having to go through the board for certain ideas to be approved. Even though there wasn’t a strong feedback from the students the teachers were very interactive and engaged in the presentation.

The teachers would like to form a team with faculty members and students to compose a school newspaper online as well as change their school website to be more appealing and unique from the rest of the high school websites.

Throughout this hour workshop Dr. Trammel and Mr. McMichael expressed how technology has advanced and how news is now at the tips of our fingers, all through social networks that we use daily. Since Beach High School does not have a school newspaper they encouraged the students to get the word out about what is taking place at their school through their own Facebook and Twitter.
